Jim Baier, President of Jim Baier, Inc. came to Fort Madison with his wife Linda and their family in 1971 from Wheaton, Illinois where he had completed a successful sales and management career in the automotive business. He progressed “through the ranks” to General Manager of one of the Chicago area’s largest Ford stores.
He opened a small Ford dealership with 12 employees at 6th Street and Avenue G in 1971. The dealership was moved to its current location in 1974. The Lincoln and Mercury lines were added in 1979 and the Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge franchises were added in 1981. The Jeep line was added in 1992. There have been many expansions of the facilities during these years with major additions of note being: a completely new showroom, offices, customer lounge and service greeting area in 1984; expanded service area in 1993; complete paving of parking and display areas; and in 1988 the expansion of the body shop complex and the addition of the NAPA auto parts store. The Prep Center was expanded in 2000. Total acreage was extended so that today there are over 10 acres of facilities servicing the Tri-State area.
During his ownership, Jim has guided and directed the dealership into a very successful corporation with over 60 employees. The company continues to grow each year.
Jim has served on numerous industry-related committees as well as local business and civic organizations. His commitment to Fort Madison and the surrounding areas has led to a great deal of community involvement. His leadership and generosity has contributed greatly to the growth and development of the communities he and his family have served.
Jim and Linda have three children: Michael, Melinda (Mindy) and James (Jamie). Mindy joined the company in 1998 as Comptroller. Jamie returned in 1999 as Vice President and General Manager, and is now President and part owner.
